AMC Premiere Free: Everything you need to know (Updated 2022)

We can not recommend Amcpremiere.com to our readers given its high monthly price of $4.99 and the lack of availability of AMC original shows like Mad Men, Better Call Saul, and Breaking Bad. Its poor user interface makes it difficult to use.

AMC - American Movie Classics. The Name Alone conjures up Images of Sepia-Toned Classics; House on the Prairie-Era Films of the Great American Heartland; Amber Fields of Grain as Far As the Eye Can See. But for All the Romance that the Channel's Name Suggests, AMC Didn't Even Exist Until the '80s. Since Its Creation in 1984, AMC Has Undergone Plenty of Change, but What hasn't Changed is its Ubiquitous Existence in the World of American Television.
Today I am here to take a look under the hood of AMC's premium streaming service, AMC Premiere. With new streaming platforms cropping up left and right, it is becoming more difficult to make wise consumer decisions. Do you go with Netflix? Hulu? Both, or neither? What does AMC Premiere have that the others don't? What is AMC Premiere, anyway?
We will examine the premium service's ins and outs. I will explain how it works, who it is for, and whether it is worth subscribing to it. You may even learn a thing or two in the process.

How it Started

If you flipped to the AMC channel during the '80s, you would find it playing classic American films from before the 1950s. At first, the channel played only in the afternoon and evening hours, but if you desired to watch The Phantom of the Opera or films by the Marx brothers, you would be in luck. But if you were looking for something more contemporary, best look elsewhere. Simply put, it was a modest channel with humble ambitions.
At the turn of the century, modernity slapped AMC in the face. To respond, the channel adapted its programming schedule to run for 24 hours a day. Its fan base grew as major cable providers agreed to show the channel. And for its first 14 years, AMC operated without any commercials. But in 2007, it cashed out and introduced commercials during movies alongside traditional breaks. This act foreshadowed the big change AMC would soon undergo: becoming a cable network with commercial breaks throughout each movie.
As the new millennium began, AMC underwent a dramatic transformation, changing its programming strategy to keep up with the times. Within a few years, reality series had displaced silent films as AMC's most popular genre. Management attributed the shift to the channel's need to survive in an increasingly competitive television market. The ruthless power of money had won, and AMC seemed intent on becoming just like every other channel.
However, by 2007, things had taken a turn for the worse. The launch of Mad Men breathed new life into the channel and it was soon followed up by Breaking Bad. The channel's original programming lost some respect, but since then, things have not been going well. Popular shows like The Walking Dead have not been enough to sustain this growth, and now consumers seem to have forgotten about AMC.

How it Works

Some major media companies have released clunky streaming platforms that often confuse users. For example, Showtime operates two near-identical streaming services: Showtime and Showtime Anytime. However, each service has its own standalone app and portal. Huh? We wish we could say AMC was more efficient, but it isn't - not by much.
If you do not have an AMC subscription through your television provider, you are not eligible for AMC Premiere. There is currently no way to sign up for it as a standalone service.
This isn't to say that you need an AMC Premiere subscription in order to stream any of AMC's content. By logging into AMC's media hub through your television provider's portal, you can download the regular AMC app. Once it's installed, you can sync it to any of your streaming devices in order to watch your favorite content.
After careful consideration, I have decided that AMC Premiere is worth the monthly fee. This service gives you access to special features not available with the library, like behind-the-scenes bonus footage or episodic downloads that are available offline. Additionally, they offer an ad-free viewing experience for select shows. For $4.99/month, this service is definitely worth considering.
To reiterate, you can only access Premiere if you have access to AMC through a provider. To sign up for AMC Premiere, you will have to go directly through that provider. There is no standalone app and the $4.99/month charge will be tacked on to the monthly bill you receive from your provider.

What?s Included

Typically, when you try to watch an AMC show that is currently airing, it will not be available on the device. However, during special catch-up opportunities, older episodes might be available.
The streaming giants likely nabbed exclusive hosting rights to these shows early on in the game. Maybe AMC's management didn't plan on having a premium streaming service themselves, but without the channel's bread-and-butter shows, what's left?
We will divide AMC's library into two groups: those available as full series, and those of which you can only watch the current season.

Full Series:

Kevin Smith's Comic Book Men - The Making of the Mob - Unspeakable - State of the Union - Alcatraz - The Name of the Rose - NOS4A2

Current Season Only:

The Walking Dead, Talking Dead, Into the Badlands, Brockmire, Fear the Walking Dead, Killing Eve were all aired this week.
What is the takeaway? In my opinion, the library's selection of television shows is sorely lacking. Simply put, it is a disappointing list, and those who were lured in by Breaking Bad or Mad Men will probably be dumbfounded to find these legendary shows absent on their parent channel's premium streaming platform.

Design of the Website

There isn't much to see here. The website is poorly designed, clunky, and incomplete. Contrary to what you might expect, the search function doesn't even search inside the streaming platform's library. Rather, it searches through AMC's entire archival catalog. A search for Mad Men turns up a 1999-looking query filled with useless links, including a list of the show's cast and a link to the show's Facebook page. You would have more luck searching on Ask Jeeves.
The navigation menu of the site is disappointing. It is broken down into subcategories: Featured Shows; All Shows; Movies; Schedule; and Talk. Clicking on Featured Shows takes you to a cluttered and counterintuitive landing page that was designed without rhyme or reason. If you can find your series of choice, then you will be in the clear. The web client functions adequately, though I am not sure that is much of an accomplishment - after all, it is the bare minimum.

Prime Video?s Strengths

I will be candid here. There are few strengths to speak of. If you are a fan of The Walking Dead, then . . . well, even then, there is only one season available to watch. While the service touts its ad-free viewing experience as a feature, I feel a bit like I am being gaslighted. Why wouldn't a premium for-pay service offer ad-free viewing? This isn't really a feature, but more of an industry standard.

Prime Video?s Weaknesses

The website is a disaster, the user interface is unintuitive, the subscription price is insulting, and the lack of show offerings is the coup de gr-ce.
