History and description

Borussia-Park replaced Borussia's old Bökelbergstadion, which had become severely outdated by the 1990s. Construction of the new stadium began in November 2002 and finished in 2004. The total costs of construction amounted to 86.9 million. Borussia-Park officially opened on July 30th 2004. Two weeks later, it hosted its first match, a Bundesliga match between Borussia M?Gladbach and Dortmund that ended in a 2-3 defeat for the hosts.

The Borussia-Park Stadium has a total capacity of 59,771. It can hold 1,758 business seats and 684 VIP seats. When the standing areas of the North Stand are converted into seats for international matches, the stadium's capacity is reduced to 46,287.

How to get to Borussia-Park

The Borussia-Park stadium is located in the south-western edge of the city of Mönchengladbach, slightly more than 4 kilometers from the city center and about one kilometer more from Mönchengladbach's main railway station. The stadium is located near the A61 highway, which runs west of the city. Exit Holt, turn onto the Aachener Straße (away from the city), and a few hundred metres later, turn onto the Straße Am Borussia Park.

Please take the exit Nordpark on matchdays and follow the B230 in the direction of Nordpark. Signs will guide you to Borussia-Park.

If you are using public transport to get to Mönchengladbach, there is a shuttle bus from the main railway station. On non-match days, take bus 17 in the direction of Mönchengladbach Southwall. Buses run every ten minutes and the journey takes about fifteen minutes.

Alternatively, there are shuttle buses that run from the train station Rheydt Hauptbahnhof. These buses depart regularly and take travelers to the Mönchengladbach Hauptbahnhof.

Address: Hennes-Weisweiler-Allee 1, 41179 Mönchengladbach

Eat, drink, and sleep near Borussia-Park

Borussia-Park is located outside of the city limits of Mönchengladbach and consequently, there are few places to eat and drink in the area. This is better done in the city center. Hotel Palace St George is a few hundred metres away from Borussia-Park, while Hotel Tannenhof is the cheaper option.

The overview of hotels near Borussia-Park and here for more choices in the city centre is helpful. If you are looking for a different place to stay, consider staying in Düsseldorf, which is nearby.

Gladbach Tickets

Tickets for Borussia matches can be bought online, by phone +49 (0) 1805 18 1900, at the Fan-Shop at the stadium, at the Fan-Shop at the Wallstraße 16 in Mönchengladbach's city centre, or at the Fan-Shop in Shopping-Galerie Rheydt at the Stresemannstraße 1-7. If tickets become unavailable, they can still be bought at the stadium on the day of the match, but there may be a higher price.

If you miss out on tickets, you may try your luck on Borussia's official ticket exchange, or if that fails, secondary ticketing websites like viagogo. However, expect to pay over face value.

Prices for category A matches are between 47.50 and 64.50 US dollars. Most matches are in the category C or D range, but you will pay more if you compete against teams like Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund. The standing cost is either $14.50 or $17.00, depending on the match.

Stadium tours

The Borussia Mönchengladbach team offers guided behind-the-scenes stadium tours that last about 90 minutes. These tours offer a look at the club's facilities and how they are used, as well as an opportunity to discuss the history of the club. The current schedule for tours at Borussia Dortmund can be found on the club's official website.

Reservations are required for tour tickets, which can be made by phone (+49) (0) 2161 9293 1526 or email [email protected] For weekend tours, reservations need to be made before Friday noon.

The tour costs ?9.00.

The public transport information for Mönchengladbach can be found at NVV-ag.de. The atmosphere at the match was good but it could have been better. However, all in all, I think this is a club that people should visit. It was easy to get tickets—just delivered to my home address a few days after booking them, and a few days before the match started they also had e-tickets.

Easy to find the necessary amenities. The stadium is not too far away either. I attended the match between Borussia Monchengladbach and Eintracht Frankfurt. The stadium was easy to find, close by the highway. In the middle of nowhere, there was plenty of park space. There were also easy access to necessary amenities such as food and drink. The match itself was not too far away either, which was great

The Fanhaus, located near the stadium, offers concessions and merchandise. There is also a large fanpark nearby. Arriving early is suggested to avoid crowds and make the most of the atmosphere. Staying later can be fun since there are many food options and fans to talk to.

Borussia Park is a great stadium and Gladbach are a great club. If you want to buy drinks in or around the stadium, it is no problem - there is the Fanhaus which is awesome. Just don't wear a Cologne scarf. There is also now a very large fanpark. If you have never been before and are making a special trip, arrive early and soak up the atmosphere (1330 for a 1530 KO game) and stay later (a good hour) - there is plenty of food and drink and lots and lots of friendlySupporters to talk to and make you feel welcome.

Many German fans stick around even after the game is over to applaud their players. This is wonderful.

Many German fans stay for a longer time just to applaud their players, which is amazing.

I went to see the home match against Hannover on 21-11-2015. It was a great match and the atmosphere was great. The stadium is much larger and cleaner than what we are used to, and we will visit the team more in the future.

On 21 November 2015, I attended the home match against Hannover. The game was great and the atmosphere was great. The stadium is much larger and cleaner than what we are used to, and we will visit the team more in the future.

The stadium itself is large but unremarkable - devoid of any attractive or stylish features. Nice beers and sausages are available though.

On 9 February 2013, we went to Mönchengladbach vs Bayer Leverkusen game at the Rheydt station, getting the bus from there. There are a few nice bars across the road from the station, including an Irish pub, so I would recommend a few pints here because there is nothing around the ground itself.

The atmosphere in the ground was not very good, but the football was dire. Monchengladbach were 5th in the Bundesliga at the time, but they played like a non-league team. Leverkusen were 2nd in the Bundesliga and were slightly better, playing mainly on the break. So despite being a 3-3 draw, we left feeling that German football is not as strong as sometimes suggested.

Leave plenty of time to get to and from the ground; it's in the middle of nowhere. The stadium itself is a good size but very bland - purely functional with nothing attractive or stylish about any aspect. The beer and sausages are nice though.

I find the trend of making anti-terrace atmospheres more boring troubling, as this has been a trend in England during the last 15-20 years. Excellent job German clubs!.

Although stadiums in many other countries have replaced terraces with seats, German stadiums still have them because they are considered an important part of the fan experience.

The atmospheres at German football matches are much better than in many other countries, and this is because they attract a lot of young people. It's much cheaper to match matches on terraces in Germany, so it's a more social activity there than it is in many other countries.

This statement critiques the trend of decreasing tension in football stadiums and supporting singing and chanting by stating that there is a great chance that terraces will be used to create more noise and make fans bouncing like those in Argentina, Uruguay and Chile. It is sad that the World Cup's investment will lead to the demise of terraces in Brazil.

I criticize the anti-terrace trend making atmosphere more boring, just as has happened during the last 15 to 20 years in England. Well done German clubs!

They set us back $29 each. The stadium was well-filled, but the atmosphere far from great, presumably caused by the insignificance of the match, low-profile opponent, and extremely poor football on display. After the match, a good queue had built up around the shuttle buses and it took about half an hour to get on one. So you might as well take your time leaving the stadium (or rush off 5 minutes before the end).

I visited Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Greuther Fürth on 6 April 2013.

We bought our tickets online through the official website. We have not received e-tickets yet, but they arrived at our home a few days after ordering.

We travelled to Mönchengladbach from Düsseldorf [Hbf] with the S8 commuter train. There were a good few Gladbach fans getting on the same train, so there was no doubt we had the right one.

We got off at Mönchengladbach Hbf, where the front square was already packed with drinking Gladbach fans. The shuttle buses were easy to find, and while a small crowd had assembled around the buses, it took us only a few minutes to get on one. It took about 20 minutes to get to the stadium.

Borussia-Park is not pretty from the outside and it lies in a not very appealing area. The pre-match atmosphere is great though with an abundance of beer, sausages, and friendly fans.

We enjoyed good seats at one of the sides with a nice view over the north terrace where Gladbach's more fanatic fans are located. They charged us ?29 each.

The stadium was well-filled, but the atmosphere was far from great, presumably because of the insignificance of the match, low-profile opponent, and extremely poor football on display.
