History and description

It was renamed after Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1971. The stadium has been renovated several times, most recently in 2006. The Cairo International Stadium originally held over 100,000 spectators, though unofficial attendance estimates could reach upwards of 120,000. It is not the permanent home of any club team, though various Cairo based clubs, including top clubs Al Ahly and Zamalek, use it for their high-profile matches. They otherwise play their home matches at smaller stadiums across Cairo or elsewhere in the country.

How to get to Cairo International Stadium

Cairo International Stadium is located in Nasr City, a suburb towards the north-east of the Cairo Metropolitan Area. It lies roughly halfway between central Cairo and Cairo International Airport, about 10 kilometers away from either. Take a taxi to the stadium or inquire locally about appropriate bus routes.
