comingsoon.net
ComingSoon.com is a website that provides content about upcoming movies and television shows. On this website, there are plenty of first looks at exclusive sneak peeks at popular shows, as well as photo galleries giving viewers early access looks to shows in development.
Compared to other entertainment websites, ComingSoon is favorably reviewed. The website design and layout are attractive, and the content is diverse. The site covers a large number of genres, so the target audience is broad. It's likely that ComingSoon sees a lot of traffic.
The origins of Coming Soon are difficult to determine. There is no About Us page that provides information about the website's creation, and there is also no wiki page providing information on the site's history.
Website Design
The website design is simplistic and classic. The color scheme is black and white, reminiscent of old films. The primary menu resembles a DVD menu and really brings a theme to the website.
The website is easy to navigate and the search bar is easily identifiable. There is strong branding present on the site, with articles typically stacked vertically on most pages. The way it is organized makes reading the headline and slug excerpt easy. There is also a nice graphic collage of popular articles on the front page.
There are some advertisements present, but they do not take away from the readability of articles. However, the header ad would be less distracting if it were placed elsewhere.
Content
There is a lot of information to sift through, but the site is well organized and the search function makes locating what you are looking for easy.
There is a great deal of content available on the ComingSoon website. This site is broken into several categories such as movies, TV shows, streaming services, games, and more. All of these tabs focus on upcoming releases. There is a lot of information to browse through, but it is well organized and the search feature makes locating what you are looking for easy.
Many reviews are available of recently premiered shows and movies. The website also provides lists of titles released on specific days. It can be especially useful for when viewers are looking for something to watch, but do not have a specific title in mind.
The organizational system for movie categories on the website is different than what most people are used to. Instead of articles, the page lists titles in chronological order by release date. The titles are further categorized into release month and then day. There are multiple ways to sort, including by release dates, just added, and new releases.
The trailers tab is another great category on the website. In this section, readers can find official movie trailers, teasers, and promotional clips. There are tons of trailers updated daily to this portion of the site.
I especially enjoy the streaming section of the website. There are subcategories for Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. There are reviews, photo galleries, and announcements about features from these streaming services. It's a great central location to see what is being updated on the most popular streaming platforms.
Desktop & Mobile Accessibility
The desktop site is decent. It has a clean, modern look and feel. There isn't anything particularly special about the website, but it has a certain charm. It feels familiar but has updated and unique content. The navigation is smooth, and there are no blatant flaws.
Unfortunately, there is no ComingSoon application. The mobile browser, however, does function well. It is a scaled-down version of the website. The mobile browser is optimized for viewing on cell phones. The flow of the articles is good; they are not bunched together. The text remains large enough to be readable. Overall, there is nothing wrong with mobile design.
Positives
The website has a few positive qualities. The website is very basic but does what it is supposed to do. One positive aspect of the website is the menu. The menu theme comes through perfectly in this section of the website. The tabs for different categories look like something similar to a DVD menu.
The ComingSoon website provides interesting content with a focus on cutting to the chase. Their genres are diverse, and their writers link to interesting articles.
The website's layout is simple and sleek. The articles are well organized and easy to read. The flow sets up a direction for the reader's eyes to follow. There is also a pleasant sidebar with popular headings.
A common issue with websites similar to ComingSoon is that the search bar is not legible. Luckily, this website has taken viewers? needs into consideration by making the search bar plain to see and located in the top right corner.
Negatives
There are a few negative things about ComingSoon. Most of the issues are easy to fix. Some of them are not really a big deal. A very small issue is the advertisements. It's a small problem, but large header ads are eye-sores.
Almost everything on ComingSoon works properly. I did not have trouble with bad links or pop-ups surprising me while clicking around. However, one link that did not work properly was the channel category on the main menu. I am unsure of where the link was supposed to take viewers, but it would not open. There was a drop-down menu that had the names Shock Til You Drop and Superhero Hype. Upon further inspection, the names are sister websites to ComingSoon. Shock Til You Drop is the horror section of ComingSoon, and Superhero Hype is a separate website that features super-hero and comic content.
There is a never-ending scroll on some pages of the website. I am not a fan of this feature because it makes getting to the footer menu ridiculously hard. It is usually unnecessary and another unfortunate issue is the website's lack of an About Us page. I searched high and low for more information about the company to no avail.
There is one more issue about the website design that troubles me. The margins of the background are too wide. The background is plain black, so leaving such large margins is confusing. If they were shrunken, there would be more room for more articles. At the very least, it would make a more appealing sidebar.
Improvements Needed
I do not have many suggestions for this website. The design of this site is very simple. Its singular goal is to provide information about entertainment media that are soon coming to screens. They easily achieve this goal.
We could eliminate the endless scroll feature if we replaced it with a button that says "load more." This would be much more efficient and helpful to users.
If the margins were taken out a little more, there would be more room for extra articles. Alternatively, if nothing else, it would provide a little bit more space between them.
Summary
The website, ComingSoon, is a media news website that provides release dates for popular tv shows and movies. ComingSoon does not have a lot of information about its history, which is why the website has been gaining popularity in recent years.
The website's design is classic and easy to navigate. All of the links work properly and the search bar is easy to find. Additionally, the website uses a sidebar effectively, organizing all of its content well.
