This year, premium streaming sites have popped up all over the place. Disney+, one of the most anticipated streaming services for 2019, is jam-packed with Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and other shows!
Disney+ launched on November 12th, 2019 and was so popular that the website crashed a few times. Due to this, users were unable to access the app until it was fixed.
The company promises exclusive content that is unavailable anywhere else. So far, they have delivered on that promise by releasing the popular series The Mandalorian. The show has been an overnight sensation and has high hopes that the company will continue to produce quality media.
Website Design
It makes it easy to find what you're looking for, and the graphics are truly stunning.
We highly appreciate Disney's efforts in developing such a well-designed streaming service, Disney+. The naviagation system is very smooth and efficient, as well as the titles placement. The graphics are absolutely stunning, and make it easy to find what we're looking for.
The large HD photo banners that scroll the top are exactly the right size. Usually, an overtly large image can be overkill. In this case, the image grabs the viewer's attention in a pleasant way.
The menu sits at the top of the page in clear text. The Disney+ logo is the first image on the list. Followed by the logo the menu reads from left to right - home, search, watchlist, originals, movies, and series. Everything you need is in one centralized location on the page.
The website features featured programs beneath which are popular choices that have been blocked out. Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic are some categories available. When you click on any of the boxes, an animation will play within the box. After clicking the box, you will be taken to a page with a large header animation and the shows related to the category.
Content
Disney+ does an excellent job of catering to every audience's interests. Generations can find something they love on this website, from forgotten series to the latest Avengers movies. Disney is a master of pleasing its fans, with its library spanning everything from nostalgia-filled series to critically acclaimed blockbusters.
By hitting the search button, you can explore many different titles. The Princesses collection includes all of the vaulted princess movies as well as newer ones like Frozen, Moana, and Tangled. There are also series available in this collection.
Disney+ has recently added original content to their streaming service, much like Netflix has.Netflix has been wildly successful with some of its Netflix originals like The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Disney is smart to follow in their footsteps by adding original content to their own streaming service. So far, the most notable original from Disney is The Mandalorian. The series has swept the internet and kept fans on their toes. Viewers even created a meme from the reveal of the unforgettable baby Yoda.
Desktop & Mobile Accessibility
The website is very easy to navigate and has a large picture of the main character for easy identification.
The desktop version of Disney+ is stunning. You can tell that a lot of time and effort was put into creating this website and streaming service. The background is a sleek black that allows the bright colors of the HD preview images from the shows to shine. The contrast of the images and background create a harmonious union. The website is very easy to navigate and has a large picture of the main character for easy identification.
The monochrome scheme is modern and appealing to the eye. Grey shades are used to block out some of the category options. The text is a crisp white and complements the theme well. The font is simple and clean, resulting in a beautiful, cohesive design.
The mobile application opens with another lovely animation. The home page of the app is identical to the home page on the desktop version. Usually, this would spell disaster but Disney modeled their website with thoughts of other applications in mind.
The app's thumbnails are large enough to see without strain. The search on the app is easy to find and useful. It offers a search bar at the top and the option to discover new titles beneath. The third button beside the search menu is the download list. Movies and series downloaded on your device will appear here. The final option is your account settings.
From the app, you can add profiles and personalize them. You are able to access and edit your watchlist, as well. App settings allow you to select how you want to use your mobile data, download options, and video quality. Additionally, app settings offer insight into your iPhone storage so that you can make informed choices about how much space is available for downloads.
Positives
The Walt Disney Company has announced the launch of its new streaming service, Disney+ which is predicted to be a hit with both children and adults. The long wait for it definitely paid off as the developers made sure to cover all the bases with a high-quality service. The features that are included are extensive, and there is something for everyone.
The different Disney+ subscription prices run from $6.99 to $69.99 per year. This is an extremely affordable service with a wide price range. Some more well-known streaming services charge substantially more for their memberships and do not include ESPN or Hulu as part of the bundle.
The fantastic feature of the Disney program is that users can download content onto up to 10 devices. This membership encompasses original content that is unavailable on any other site. If you're not watching the new original Disney content, then you're missing out on a lot. Baby Yoda has taken over the internet and promises to be an unforgettable Disney memory.
Disney Plus is the best source for accessing nostalgic television shows from your childhood. It is amazing to be able to share with your children the shows you grew up with and never thought you would see again. Gargoyles is a good nostalgic starting point. The popular '90s show was added to the Disney Plus library.
Negatives
Despite a few shortcomings, Disney+ is still an excellent streaming service.
The search feature on Disney+ is, for the most part, flawless. However, at times it orders titles in a strange manner. Sometimes the system will organize search results as alphabetical. Other times, it will organize them from newest to oldest. Since Disney+ is so new, it may just be them testing things out but we can't wait for them to decide on an order and stick with it. Ideally, chronological order of what the titles from the first movie to the last would arguably be better.
Sometimes when selecting titles, the stream may lag out. This does not happen often, but when it does, it is a bummer. Luckily, it is not a constant occurrence. Usually, going back and reselecting is the solution to this problem.
Another issue with Disney+ is that some titles are currently unavailable. When you see a movie poster for a title, you typically click it to watch right away. However, Disney+ features an image then when you click to watch the title is unavailable. It's an advertisement for an upcoming movie that will be made available in the future.
Improvements Needed
If I could choose one thing to change about Disney+, it would be the misleading titles that are currently not being taken down. A ?coming soon? list that was not shown in search results would be much more helpful.
Summary
There are many premium streaming websites, but one that comes out on top is Disney+. Its original content section is growing, and downloading your favorite shows and movies is a dream with this website. Desktop and mobile apps are both practically perfect. Disney+ mastered the design of a flawless streaming service in just one try.
