One of England's new football cathedrals. It is modern, comfortable, and has great sightlines, but it rarely has the atmosphere of the old Highbury.

History and description

The Emirates Stadium replaced Arsenal's previous home, Highbury, which had become too small and lacked the possibilities for expansion being hemmed in by housing. The idea of a new stadium was revisited in 2006 and early 2007, but again Wembley was considered. In the end it was decided that a new stadium should be built in order to keep the club in London. The first plans for the construction of a new stadium were made in the late 1990s, but also the option of moving to the new Wembley Stadium was considered. The idea of a new stadium was revisited in 2006 and early 2007, but again Wembley was considered. In the end, it was decided that a new stadium should be built in order to keep the club in London.

A site was chosen a few hundred yards away from Highbury, and after a few delays, construction of the stadium started in 2004. The total project budget amounted to £390 million.

The Stadium has been the home of Arsenal FC since its opening.

Despite being in close competition with nearby Wembley Stadium, the Emirates Stadium has never been used to host the English national team - this is typically reserved for international fixtures against Brazil.

How to get to the Emirates Stadium

The Emirates Stadium is located in the Islington area of London near the north-western edge of Kings Cross St Pancras railway station. Other options include taxi, bus and train. There are multiple ways to reach the stadium by public transport. The underground (tube) is one option - the nearest tube station is Arsenal, which is on the Piccadilly line. Other good alternatives include stations Finsbury Park (Victoria and Piccadilly line) and Highbury & Islington (Victoria line and London overground). From both stations it is an approximate 10-minute walk to the stadium.

On non-matchdays, Holloway Road station (Piccadilly line) is not located closest, but will be closed before the match and is exit-only after the match.

Alternatively, one can catch a train to Finsbury Park or Highbury & Islington main line stations. It is a five- to ten-minute journey coming from Kings Cross station. During the week, trains depart from Moorgate as well. Drayton Park rail station, closest to the stadium, closes on match days.

Supporters are advised not to arrive by car on matchdays, and there is limited parking available around the Emirates Stadium on non-matchdays.

Address: Emirates Stadium, London N5 1BU

Well done Mr Wenger, I don't always agree with his tippy tappy football but what he has done for the club is nothing but miraculous and the Emirates is a big part of his legacy! I have been going to see Arsenal since 1970 and how things have changed!

The Arsenal Stadium is clean and tidy, with plenty of room to move around without being crushed. The Stadium has progressed significantly in recent years, which is why it had to happen. Well done Mr Wenger, for doing what you have done for the Club - nothing but miraculous! I have been a supporter of Arsenal since 1970 and can honestly say that things have changed a great deal since then.

The one problem with the stadium is that it has poor atmosphere. However, this could be because the stadium is filled with a lot of tourists who are not die-hard fans, and that could possibly contribute to the low level of noise. Additionally, the seats are a little far from the pitch.

The Fantaic stadium is very well-organized with a lot of room in the seats. You are allowed to bring your own food and it is very expensive. After the game, you can walk to the Finsbury Park tube station without having to wait in line.

The ground is excellent, but the atmosphere is zero. The view from the away section is awful if you're near the front.

Mr Woolwich wrote: 22 February 2015 at 10:45pm 0 out of 10. Very, very disappointing. Did you find more atmosphere at a morgue, just another "off the shelf" stadium with fans who seem more interested in the prawn sandwiches and red wine than the football?

Your experience at the football game was not very satisfactory. The atmosphere was much more somber and lackluster than at a morgue. The fans were seemingly more interested in snacks and wine than the game itself.

The stadium is nice and has padded seats. It also has a good size, comparable to Old Trafford and even Wembley. The ground looks bigger than those two stadiums, but it has plenty of leg room so it doesn't fit as many seats in. I would rate the stadium 8.5 out of 10, as it is scary when sitting in the very top row with glass. It's an amazing experience though!

Arsenal is a great club, but Emirates lacks the atmosphere that Highbury had so much of. It is easy to get to by tube, but take note that there are long queues to get into Arsenal Station.
