We live in a brave new world where technology is king, and advancements in science and engineering are occurring at unprecedented speeds. In the 21st century, life is more convenient than ever before. We can get packages shipped to our front doors overnight using delivery drones. We have self-driving cars that run on electricity and perform on par with any gas-guzzling manual on the market. And we are constantly connected, both with one another and with literally any kind of media content and information you can think of.
The invention of the internet fundamentally changed the ways in which we relate to the world, to one another, and ourselves. Thanks to smartphones, too, we can access any information at any time in a matter of seconds. All we have to do is say something like, "Hey, Siri, how old is the planet Earth?" And in a heartbeat, our faithful AI companion will respond with a precise answer. "The earth is approximately 4.543 billion years old," she'll say.
Indeed, many would argue that the development of technology has given us an unprecedented level of intelligence, as well as connecting us to unprecedented amounts of information. In fact, we are now almost on par with cyborgs - beings who can function without organic body parts.
The widespread use of smartphones that are internet-ready has revolutionized the ways in which people relate to one another. Social media, which has altered the social terrain forever, allows people to connect across international borders and video chat with one another on opposite ends of the earth. In this way, the limitations of time and space have been shattered. Miss, an old friend of yours? No problem! Face Time, Skype, Zoom, or video chat with them on Facebook or Snapchat in a matter of seconds.
Since relatively recently, there have been a plethora of new options for consuming media. For film, we can see a new hit movie in the cinema, rent or purchase the VHS or DVD of a film, or wait years for the movie to be aired on TV. For TV, there are now streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu that allow us to watch shows anytime we want. We are also able to download shows onto our devices for later viewing. In addition, there are now books and comics that comprise an entire medium unto themselves. So while the realm of entertainment looks vastly different than it did say 20 years ago, it has also opened up greatly to allow for more diverse and personalized experiences.
Now it was the Netflix, who had essentially created their own closed system where they determined what we could watch.
Then a little website came around by the name of Netflix, and its streaming service completely changed our ability to access content. Netflix was one of the first, definitely the most successful streaming platforms. With the launch of their streaming service in 2007, we lost our control and access to content that was previously decided by a few film studios and TV networks. Now it was the Netflix who had essentially created their own closed system where they determined what we could watch.
Thanks to platforms like Netflix providing a wide variety of titles and movies for just $10 a month, we no longer had to pay per view or purchase movies. Nor did we have to have a pricey traditional cable plan any longer. With the rise of streaming sites, the consumer became more in control than ever before.
This increased sense of agency over content that we get to watch and the options we had available to us in how we view it was only enhanced when streaming sites began rolling out their services in app form. Now, not only could we watch just about anything we wanted to watch, whenever we wanted to, but also do so wherever we wanted as well. We became no longer limited to being in front of a TV. Thanks to premium streaming apps, we could take hundreds upon hundreds of movies and shows with us wherever we went. What an exciting time this is to be alive.
Nowadays, there are many different streaming apps available from which to choose. Nearly every TV network and film studio have their own streaming offerings, most of which come in app form. Plus, of course, there are the usual suspects: Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. How on earth can we be expected to weed through all of the streaming apps that exist and accurately figure out which one will be best for us?
Well, one reason I started StreamingSites is so that it would be easier to decide which streaming apps are best for me. Thanks to my lists of reviews, now I have a comprehensive collection of all the streaming options, and you can easily skim through and figure out which streaming apps will provide you with the content that you love. In general, though, I have found that content is ultimately what matters most when it comes to streaming apps. Of course, design and price are important too - but at the end of the day, you need to make sure that your premium streaming app has the kinds of shows and movies on it that you are most likely going to want to see!
Now that you are probably already somewhat familiar with EPIX, the premium streaming app they offer, EPIX Now, is a great option for those who want to find the best streaming apps for their viewing needs. Not only do they have a great selection of films and TV shows, but EPIX Now has its own original series as well which make it an even more viable option.
History
On February 22nd, 2018, MGM Studios (EPIX's parent company) announced that it was releasing an Over The Top (OTT) streaming service for EPIX that would be marketed directly to non-EPIX subscribers. This OTT service, of course, would be known as EPIX Now.
The EPIX Now official launch occurred on February 10, 2019. This was one of the newer and more premium streaming apps available at the time. The company has progressively rolled out an expansion program over the course of a year, catering to additional devices. As of today, EPIX Now remains highly acclaimed by critics.
Design
The menus are well organized and the user interface is extremely user friendly, making it easy to find what you're looking for.
One of the reasons that people seem to like EPIX Now so much is probably because its sleek and easy-to-use design. I love the way the EPIX Now app is designed. It strikes me as a bit of a classier version of, say, the Netflix app. It presents itself with the same standard black background, though EPIX Now is highlighted with gold instead of red, lending the app an almost elegant look. The menus are well organized and the user interface is extremely user friendly, making it easy to find what you're looking for.
Another key difference between the way that the EPIX Now app is designed versus many other streaming apps is the fact that it offers much larger thumbnails when you are browsing content. The larger thumbnail size gives a little more weight to each title, and, I think, makes deciding on what to watch a much easier decision. The app is also not cluttered ? it is clean, with selections taking up the majority of the app and a slender menu spanning the very bottom of the screen, allowing you to bounce between Home, Originals, Movies, My List, and Downloads.
Content
The menu options in EPIX Now's streaming service offer a comprehensive overview of what the service has to offer. You will find thousands of syndicated movie titles, which cycle occasionally. Some of these movies, such as Rocketman and The Hustle, are highly popular and regularly featured on television. EPIX does its best to provide newer movies alongside a sprawling list of classics.
EPIX now offers original series and documentaries as well. Some of EPIX's originals include War of the Worlds, Belgravia, Slow Burn, and others. I think that EPIX Now is right up there with Amazon Prime Video or Hulu when it comes to content.

Pricing and Plans
Considering the abundance of movies and original content on EPIX Now, I would consider this app to be quite a steal. For only $5.99 a month, you have access to all of this content. This makes it one of the more affordable premium streaming apps on the market today.
Suggestions that I have for EPIX Now App
I would love to see EPIX Now expand its original content more. They have a wealth of great series and documentaries, but I wish they had more of them!
