History and description

The stadium, which is located in the city of Brighton, England, cost £2.6 million to build and was privately funded by the American Express company. The American Express Community Stadium formally opened on July 30th, 2011 with a friendly match between Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur. The stadium was privately funded by American Express and located in the city of Brighton, England. Brighton had been planning to construct a new stadium as early as 1995, after former chairman Bill Archer had sold their Goldstone Ground to property developers.

The Brighton homeless community first ground-shared with Gillingham for two seasons before moving to the Withdean Stadium in Brighton, which although being upgraded lacked the modern football facilities required by League standards.

In 2007, Brighton required planning permission to start building works - this was due to various legal challenges. Building works commenced in 2008 and in 2010, the club confirmed a naming rights sponsorship deal with American Express.

The American Express was designed to allow for an easy capacity increase to 30,000 seats, and the club started planning for expansion in December 2011.

Brighton received planning permission in early 2012 and additional 5,000 seats were added before the start of the 2012-13 season by creating a second tier on the East Stand and closing the corners of the South Sand. Brighton added an additional 3,000 seats in early 2013 to bring capacity to 30,500 seats, which was again increased to 31,800 in 2021 following some small adjustments.

How to get to The Amex

The Amex bank is located north-east of Brighton near the University of Sussex campus, about 4 kilometers from Brighton's main rail station and slightly more from Brighton's seafront with its pier. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto B2123 Falmer. The stadium is located on the right-hand side.

If using public transport, the Amex can be reached by train. Falmer Rail Station is practically adjacent to the stadium. Trains from Brighton Rail Station leave every 10 to 20 minutes for the 10-minute journey. From London a transfer in Lewes or Brighton is required.

Alternatively, bus 25 can be used to reach the stadium. The bus can be taken on Western Road in Brighton's center. The ride from the center to stop Falmer Station takes about 20 minutes.

Address: Village Way, Brighton, BN1 9BL

Eat, drink, and sleep near The Amex

The Amex is located outside of the city of Brighton, bordering the University of Sussex campus. There are few places to eat and drink within walking distance, which is recommended to do in the pleasant Brighton area. There are no hotels close to The Amex, but there is plenty of choice in Brighton on the seafront.

Brighton & Hove Albion Tickets

Tickets for Brighton matches can be bought online or at the Ticket Office at The Amex Stadium. Tickets are sold at the stadium on the day of the match. Brighton often sells out, so booking in advance is recommended.

The ticket prices for category C matches, the least expensive, range from £30.00 for a seat behind the goal to £46.00 for a central seat at one of the sides. The ticket prices for category A matches, the most expensive, start at £45.00 and range up to £65.00 for the most expensive seats.

The Amex Stadium Tours

Brighton organises guided stadium tours that include access to the hospitality lounges, trophy room, directors lounge, changing rooms, press areas, and dugouts. The tours last about 1 hour and 45 minutes. The tours run multiple times a week, typically on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The website has upcoming dates and you can book by either visiting the Ticket Offices at The Amex or by checking the website.

The tour costs £13.00.

Useful websites

The official website of Brighton & Hove Albion FC, VisitBrighton.com, provides tourist information and guides for visitors to Brighton. The bus travel information website, Buses.co.uk, provides details on bus routes and timetables for travelling around the city. Getting to and returning from Brighton Station is free, but be aware that there will be queues since this is an away match. The locals are generally friendly, which is to be expected at a game away from home.

Getting to and from Brighton Station is free, but don't be in a hurry after the game. There are queues as you would expect, and the locals are generally friendly. It's the experience we should expect from going to away matches.

The home fans did not seem to have much of a spine, much like their team on the pitch. All that said, it was a pleasant day in Brighton and a whole new experience compared to other games I have been to in the United Kingdom.

Some of the home fans didn't seem to have a lot of backbone, just like their team on the pitch. All that said, it was a pleasant day in Brighton and a new experience compared to other games I've been to in the UK.

This was midweek, so it's possible that they would be more regular on a Saturday afternoon. The stadium itself is fine- a reasonable atmosphere and decent facilities in the away end.

Coming back from Falmer station was even worse - the queues in both directions stretched a long way and again trains were running at intervals of 15 minutes. This was midweek, maybe they would be more regular on a Saturday afternoon. The stadium itself is fine - an atmosphere and decent facilities in the away end.

Our party of four had a fantastic experience on our tour. The guide was excellent and the stadium was a great design. All the facilities were first class.

That?s pretty-much what its like for every home game

Dear Brighton Football Club and Staff, Thank you for hosting us for a memorable afternoon. Although we would have appreciated three points, I think we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. Thank you again!

Thank you to Brighton Football Club and staff for providing comfortable seating for our away match. It was a pleasure to attend and I wish the team all the best in their remaining fixtures.

There was no signage indicating where attendees were supposed to return to the car park after the concert, resulting in an hour-long traffic jam. Who allowed a stadium to be built without also providing an infrastructure that can move crowds? And who planned a concert without checking on this infrastructure? And who, if they really wanted this venue with this inadequate infrastructure, didn't provide a traffic directing system? It was an organisational mess with the only grace being the weather.

There was no signage directing people to the car park and as a result, there was a lot of chaos. People had to wait over an hour to exit the stadium because of a traffic jam. Who allowed the stadium to be built without also creating the infrastructure to move the crowds? And who planned a concert without checking on this infrastructure? If they really wanted this venue with this poor infrastructure, they shouldn't have provided a traffic directing system.
