History and description

The Fratton Park Stadium has been the home of Portsmouth Football Club since 1898. The club's first match at the stadium was a friendly against Southampton. In the 1950s, a major redevelopment of the stadium took place. This was followed by further developments in the 1990s and 2000s. The stadium now has a capacity of over 23,000.

The stadium recorded its highest attendance of 51,385 in 1949 during a FA Cup fixture with Derby County.

The Fratton Park stadium scarcely changed in the following decades until in 1997 the Fratton End stand got demolished and replaced by a new all-seater stand. The only change since has been the installation of a roof over the Milton End.

Portsmouth have investigated various options to either redevelop Fratton Park, or build a new stadium over the past two decades. However, multiple plans have all been unsuccessful due to various reasons. No major changes are currently expected due to the limited financial means of the club.
