We live in a world where streaming is king, cord cutting is the norm, and people are binge watching their favorite shows on their mobile devices. There is no going back to how it used to be, when cable boxes and satellite dishes ruled the land. Today, streaming is the way to go. If you haven't been able to find a way to provide on-demand and/or live TV streaming to your customers by now, you will likely be out of business soon - if it hasn't happened already (that's right, I'm looking at you, Blockbuster).
There are many ways to approach streaming TV at this stage in its evolution. Some have chosen to create their own on-demand streaming service, such as Netflix and Hulu. NBC went this way with Peacock, and NBC also created NBC All Access (which recently became absorbed by Paramount Plus). Discovery, too, just recently jumped on the TV streaming train with a new TV streaming site of their own, Discovery Plus. Regardless of which streaming service you choose (if any), one thing remains true: traditional cable packages are quickly going the way of the dinosaurs.
A number of traditional cable companies have, at this point, made their networks available online, either through a streaming platform or another. These platforms are meant to be something of a bridge between their cable offerings and the future (present), as they are only accessible to people who are already customers.
These sorts of free TV streaming services typically do not receive the same level of attention as the premium, big name services. You know, things like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, and Disney Plus. But they can be an extremely valuable TV streaming resource for those who like to stream live television or catch up on the latest episodes of their favorite TV shows that they may have missed. So if you do still have traditional cable, it may be worth considering whether or not to cut the cord yet after all. There is a good chance that your cable company offers a decent free TV streaming site for you to take advantage of.
I don't always refer to these streaming services as free TV streaming sites because they are not technically "free" in the strictest sense of the term. I think of them as ad-ridden streaming sites that only work about half the time you visit them. The reason I call these services "free" is because you do not have to pay for cable TV to watch them.
Some of the best free TV streaming sites are those like GlobalTV, which are available as a complement to services like Global - Canada?s second largest terrestrial cable company. If you already subscribe to Global, you can watch any show or movie on Globaltv.com without incurring any additional charges. In this way, Globaltv.com is a free TV streaming site.
But Global TV is also a free TV streaming site in the sense of being 100% free to watch new episodes of your favorite shows for up to 7 days after they air. To do this, you don't even have to sign in! Taking this into account, I think it is fair to say that Global TV is easily one of the best TV streaming sites on the web - so long as you catch your show within a week of its original air date! The only catch? You have to be in Canada to stream TV free on Global.
Now that we have gotten that out of the way, can we start talking about Global TV? Global is Canada's second most-watched private cable network and it owns and operates 15 channels of its own. As I said, it is only behind CTV in terms of viewership, so it is definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a free television streaming site.
History
Global first started out as a regional TV station serving southern Ontario. This launched way back in 1974 and it took only a few years for the regional station to be acquired by CanWest Global Communications (now defunct). Throughout the decades to follow, Global gradually expanded its reach throughout Canada thanks to key acquisitions and the successful creation of new stations. Eventually, a quasi-cable network began to materialize which was called the CanWest Global System until all of the stations became unified under the Global branding in 1997.
And today, Global TV is considered one of the best streaming sites and cable networks in the world. The company has come a long way from being just a regional, low-budget Ontario TV station back in the '70s, don't you think?
Design
Granted, some of them may have decent design, but you?re better off looking for a good web design company if you want your website to look its best.
Do not use this tone:
Don't usually put these phrases together, but if you're looking for a good web design company then excellent web design is the way to go.
Fortunately, Global TV provides one of the best free TV streaming site designs that I have ever seen. The site is clean and organized, intuitive and responsive, professional and easy to navigate. It should be immediately familiar to anybody who has used a streamer before.
When you land on the site's homepage, you will be greeted by an extra-large banner. Here, you will find featured series, events, and show episodes. If the featured title calls to you, it is as easy as 1 click to start streaming TV instantly.
Once you get to the content you want, clicking on it will take you to the page for that show.
Most days, if you want to watch TV shows, you'll want to browse through them first. You might see a specific show that interests you and decide to watch it right away. Or maybe you're undecided and want to continue perusing before settling on anything. The site is easy to use with a menu bar above the banner. This lets you jump to different kinds of content: Shows (of course), Full Episodes, Highlights, Schedule, Live TV, and Newsletter. Once you find what you're looking for, clicking on it will take you to the page for that show.
If you do not find what you are looking for on the main page, you can browse through the site in a traditional streaming site fashion by scrolling through a descending series of menu rows. You will see what is new this season, latest primetime episodes, news, daytime TV, and more. The site is also wonderfully dynamic and responsive with interactive thumbnails that respond and change when your cursor hovers.
Content and Features
Global TV is a great site for streaming live TV shows on-demand, sure, but it's also great for streaming live TV shows as well. With an impressive list of available channels to stream live, Global TV is a great way to keep up to date with your favorite series. Naturally, you can stream any of the Global channels.Additionally, though, this site allows you to tune into the History Channel, Food Network, HGTV, Slice, W, Showcase, National Geographic, and Adult Swim. You will also have access to staples like NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, etc. Basically if you can access it on your TV you can stream it live on Global.
Mobile and Desktop Experience
Or on the Google Play Store, where it received an average user rating of 4.7 (out of 5).
The good news is that there are mobile apps available for both iOS and Android devices. Both apps are incredibly smooth, user-friendly, and dependable. However, be sure to check out the reviews on the Apple App Store, where it received an average user rating of 4.5 (out of 5). Or on the Google Play Store, where it received an average user rating of 4.7 (out of 5).
I have one concern about Global TV's compatibility concerns- the fact that it is only available on mobile devices and laptop/desktop browsers. There are no console or TV apps for Global. However, if you are a Global TV customer, I suppose you won't really need a smart TV app because you already have the cable connection.
