People.com is home to one of the world's longest-running and popular entertainment news publications, People Magazine. Since the 1970s, People has been a well-known institution in the print media landscape, and they have taken this clout with them into the digital age as well, offering tons of entertainment and celebrity news, as well as their own streaming TV network People TV (for free). For those of us who are obsessed with celebrity gossip, entertainment news is a reliable way to stay entertained.
There are many sources of entertainment news, and it can be difficult to decide which one to choose. However, it never hurts to have a default source for news in the entertainment industry. So which one is right for you?
According to some experts, in order to find the best entertainment news site for you, you should first ask yourself what kind of content interests you. Some people prefer film news, while others are more interested in celebrity gossip or streaming shows. It really depends on what kind of person you are!
Before you can determine which entertainment news outlet will be the right choice for you, you must first figure out what kind of content interests you. Once you know this, the decision becomes a simple process of learning which sites privilege your preferred kind of content and which ones do not. I am here to help with this.
Today we will be taking a look at one of the longtime staples in the entertainment news genre- People. This site has been around for over a century and has shown no signs of slowing down- they have even managed to stay relevant online after transitioning from a print magazine. Is People the right entertainment news outlet for you? Let's take a closer look and find out!

History

The idea for People magazine has often been attributed to Andrew Heiskell, who is also credited with conceptualizing Life magazine and the previous publisher of Time Inc. Heiskell was not alone in founding People either, he was among great journalistic company. The founding editor-in-chief of the magazine, for instance, was Richard B.Stolley, who famously acquired the Zapruder tape of the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
The vision for People magazine was to be a publication that would focus on the people who are causing the news and who are caught up in it or deserve to be in it. Our focus was on people, not issues. This formula, it turned out, was something that the masses gravitated toward with ease. People found rapid and meteoric success. Although Time Inc. bolstered the venture with an initial $40 million investment, People magazine has been said to have broken even on that investment within its first 18 months. The magazine debuted in March of 1974.
People continued to grow in popularity and offerings in 1996, when it began offering a Spanish language version of the magazine, People en Espanol. The magazine differed from its English counterpart in that it catered to celebrities and people of interest in Latin countries, among other changes.
The 2002 magazine also introduced a supplementary periodical focused on fashion, celebrity style, and beauty. This was another successful publication. However, it is no longer published in print. It can, however, still be found online.
There have been several other iterations of People magazine. In addition to the Hispanic version, they have also branched into the Australian market with Who magazine, the youth market with Teen People, and, more recently, the dot-com market with People.com. Although People magazine is still published once a month, far and away the easiest way to access People?s content is through their stylish and surprisingly understated website.

Design

When I look at people.com, I find the design to be minimalist. Compared to other sites that are focused on celebrity gossip, People's design is more refined. This surprises me, as People is known for its journalism and coverage of popular culture. Most media outlets catering to entertainment news tend to be flashy and over-the-top. People, in contrast, is classy and elegant.
On top of that, it is very easy to use and navigate. Right off the bat, everyone will be a pro at browsing this site. This is a prime example of intuitive site design. It is very straightforward - a bunch of articles to choose from, as most news sites are formatted, in the center matter of the page; and then a quick and breezy site menu bar to explore by section: News, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Royals, Shopping, People TV. It doesn't get much simpler than this.

Content

This is another great victory for People.com, in my opinion. There is a lot of content here, covering text, images, and videos. Plus, the site offers full-length episodes of original entertainment news shows for free. How many entertainment news sites can say that?
The website, People, is constantly updated with news and information pertaining to popular entertainment. If there is something noteworthy happening with regards to pop culture, People will have the news available shortly after.
I'm concerned that the magazine People.com has lost its focus and that the majority of what it offers today is not professional journalism. I used to enjoy reading profiles and insights into the people who are making news, but now the content seems superficial and more focused on gossip than reporting.
I think that Richard Stolley, if he had any say in the matter, would not be content with the content of People magazine. However, if gossip is your thing, rejoice. If it's not, perhaps the print magazine would be a better avenue for you when it comes to People - it might still have some of its integrity intact.

Desktop and Mobile Experience

As I have said before, the design of People.com is professional and subtle. It is easy to use, no matter what device you are using. The in-browser desktop and in-browser mobile experiences are excellent.
There is an app called the "People" that is worth checking out if you want to take your reading on the go. It is streamlined and easier to browse on a smartphone, and also pretty well designed. It has received an average rating of 4.3 stars on the Apple App Store.

Pricing and Plans

People.com is a free and open source site that offers readers unlimited access to articles. There is no paywall, but subscriptions are available in order to gain access to additional benefits, such as archiving favorite articles and following specific tags or interests. Exclusive content and deals are also available for premium members. The price for the hard copy magazine varies depending on how often it is updated, typically costing around $89.99 per year.

Suggestions that I have for People

I would like to see People offer more substantive content. In this day and age, it is rare to find meaningful and thought-provoking pieces. I would also like to see People?s premium service offer more incentive. Just a few extra articles and the ability to bookmark pieces does not seem like enough to me.
