It seems as if there are new music streaming services coming out every other month. The list keeps growing and growing with no signs of stopping or slowing. There are Spotify, Tidal, Google Play, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Pandora, and iHeart Radio.
It seems that everyone wants a piece of the music streaming pie. This is understandable, as music is one of the most in-demand forms of art and entertainment. No matter how well other forms of media are doing - film, television, radio - there will always be a high demand for music.
There is something special about music that makes it one of the most popular forms of art. People seem to connect with it on a deeper level than they do with other forms of art. Sure, we all enjoy watching a good series and forgetting our lives for a while in the drama of a classic movie. But nothing comes close to the emotional connection that people often have with music.
We believe that music is an essential part of our lives and use it to soundtrack our every activity. Whether we work to it, exercise to it, mourn to it, party to it, or just enjoy listening to it for its own sake, music has a special role in connecting us with one another and motivating us toward success. While there are moments when its presence isn't necessarily welcomed, overall music is an important part of our lives and we seek a streaming service that caters specifically to our needs.
To figure out which audio streaming service is right for you, it's important to ask yourself what type of listening you prefer. Each music streaming service has a different style that suits different listeners, so I think it's important to consider what your style is before making a decision. In today's article, we'll be seeing how Qobuz compares to some of the more popular audio streaming services.

History

Qobuz (pronounced ?co-buzz?) is a streaming service with French origins, founded in 2007 by Yves Riesel. It gradually expanded into European borders and overseas, initially participating in the markets of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, and Italy. As of May 2019 Qobuz is on trial in the United States.
Qobuz is more closely aligned, I believe, with Tidal than it is with Spotify. That is to say that it values sound quality above all else. If you are a serious audiophile, I think that you will find much to be excited by thanks to Qobuz. Plus, as a relatively young music streaming platform, there are so many directions left for this scrappy streaming service to grow. Who knows where the road will lead to Qobuz?

Design

If I had to sum up Qobuz's site design in a word, I would say that it is dynamic. It employs a simple minimalist approach that does not feel any less modern than it should. Scrolling down the page, you find that the layout is beautifully simple (elegant even), but graphics and text bounce and jump out at you to catch your eye?in a tasteful way?just enough to be interactive without being cheesy or feeling sophomoric in any way.
Qobuz clearly targets professionals in the music industry. Not necessarily those who are in the music industry, although I'm sure this site would satisfy even the pickiest audio engineer out there. But the images on the site, for instance, show mature individuals allowing themselves to be lost in soundscapes of lush music.
The web experience offered by Qobuz feels like listening to a symphony. The further down you scroll, the more immersed you become in the music. This results in an unmatchable web experience that allows users to escape and immerse themselves in the music.

Content

Qobuz is a streaming app that sits nicely alongside other popular streaming apps on the market. In terms of the number of songs, Qobuz beats out Spotify and YouTube Music, boasting an impressive 40 million tracks. Additionally, you can either stream or purchase individual songs to be enjoyed offline if you so desire.
Qobuz offers an expansive and carefully curated music experience, whether you prefer to enjoy expertly curated playlists or have direct access to new releases. There are also many playlists specifically focused on world music, making for a wonderfully diverse listening experience.
Qobuz seems to want to set itself up as the vinyl equivalent of a digital streaming world. And its strategy for doing this, in addition to superior sound quality, lies in content. In addition to 40 million+ songs in studio streaming quality, users can also enjoy exclusive interviews with artists and digital booklets of albums, scratching the nostalgia itch for anyone who misses the delights of possessing physical albums.

Desktop and Mobile Experience

Web browser player seems to be just as well-designed as the app itself when it comes to Qobuz. No matter what device you are listening on, you can be guaranteed a superb listening experience, with expert sound quality, flawless streaming, and beautiful design.
Some people feel that Qobuz is an excellent listening experience, with ratings averaging out at 4.7 stars out of 5. This is due to the intimate and excellent Qobuz listening experience being able to be taken with you no matter where you go.

Pricing and Plans

This is where things start to go south, I am afraid. As I said before, Qobuz seems to be marketed towards mature professionals, and the price seems to reflect that target demographic. No matter which tier subscription you go for, it is going to run you a bit more than the competitor services. The prices do fluctuate quite frequently, but at the moment, these are the current prices:
Studio Premiere is a monthly subscription that provides high-resolution streaming, offline listening, exclusive content, and the first month for free.
The Sublime Plus plan offers everything that the Premiere plan offers, plus discounts on purchases and exclusive deals. Additionally, the first month is not free for this option.

Suggestions that I have for Qobuz

Speaking of pricing, my main suggestion for Qobuz is to find a way to get those price points down! It would probably be best for Qobuz to appeal to a slightly larger demographic by making it cheaper. A $10/month option would be a good start. That or even offering a freemium model with ads and limited skips or features would be a good way to get more people lured in. As of now, though, I don't know many people who are going to fork over $15 a month on the off chance that Qobuz is the right streaming service for their needs.
I think that Qobuz's pricing tiers need to be reconsidered. They currently offer a tier that is $25 each month, but this is not enough. I would like to see them offer something more than discounted downloads. I mean, part of the point of downloading a music streaming app is so you don't have to download files to your computer or phone, right?

Conclusion

All in all, I feel that Qobuz has a lot of potential and could eventually be the best music streaming app on the market. Its branding, site and app design, sound quality, and unique edge make it a great option, but it needs to do more to bring its price down or offer more features for the money it asks currently.
However, if you are looking for a listening experience that comes as close to vinyl as possible in the digital age, Qobuz is it.
