Anime is no longer considered a niche form of Asian entertainment. It has become a billion-dollar industry and its growth can be attributed to the numerous positive consequences that have come along with it, such as increased attention from North American and European audiences. The Japanese culture as a whole has also benefited from this attention, as it is now appreciated for its uniqueness, creativity, and overall appeal. In particular, there is an abundance of anime with strong story-telling capabilities, which often engrosses viewers emotionally and leaves them wanting more. An anime as an art is quite powerful. Once it swoops you in, you will be bound to the fantasy world. Over the years, series such as One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon, Naruto and Death Note have amassed a global fanbase. These series have been such a blockbuster among audiences, that major studios are spending millions trying to recreate the original piece. If you are an anime lover, you know how wholesome the anime community is. And for this particular review, we are going to talk about the world's biggest anime community on reddit r/anime.

My recent experience on r/anime

I have always been a fan of this subreddit because the creativity on this page. My recent experience on this subreddit was amazing fanart by Canned_Mann, in which the user used Za Hanndoo to erase the paper that was drawn on. For real, that is the wackiest thing I saw today. It was super cool. Within 23 hours, the post received nearly 10,000 upvotes and I just couldn't help but share this post on other social networks.

The community-focused subreddit, r/anime, boasts a membership of 1.5 million people. Of this number, an estimated 7-10 thousand are actively participating at any given time. The breadth and quality of content available on this subreddit is evident in the many interesting and creative posts that are shared each day. Whether you're a fan of anime or just looking for new information, r/anime has something for you.

Their primary goal is to ensure that the content on the page complies with the rules of the subreddit, while also providing a supportive and engaging environment for its users. For example, at the time of writing this review there is a lot of attention being paid to ?KyoAni Studio 1 building demolishing?.

Community Engagement

Anime is a super active community, which is why I love it so much. As an anime fan, you don't wish for more than having a dozen of anime buddies with whom you can share your thoughts. In this case, there are more than a million. Cumulatively, if every post got upvoted, it would easily surpass the 500,000 mark. The top post on the thread has a tendency to receive a large number of comments. The subreddit r/anime has a large fanbase and thus it participates in AMAs (Ask Me Anything), events (such as AnimeCons), and other megathreads (such as "Merch Mondays", "Recommendation Tuesdays", "Thursday Animal Discussion Threads", "Casual Discussion Fridays", and "Monthly Meta Threads"). These include ?Merch Mondays?, ?Recommendation Tuesdays?, ?Thursday Animal Discussion Threads?, ?Casual Discussion Fridays?, and ?Monthly Meta Threads?.

Browsing & Navigation

I spend a good 10-15 minutes on this subreddit each day, scrolling until I find something else. Based on my years of experience on this subreddit, I can vouch for the browsing and navigation experience on this page. There are no discrepancies at all. Even with an unstable internet connection, you'll still manage to load a lot of pages. Similar to other subreddits, r/anime's well-sorted content makes it easier for users to check what's popping.

Reddit Gold

On average, the top post on r/anime can receive anywhere from one to two golds. I'm sure that's not much, but given the size of just one million, you have to admit that it's far more impressive as compared to r/Videos', which typically receive between three and four golds. However, you have to say that this community doesn't give away gold as freely as r/askreddit or r/prorevenge. You have to post something original and outstanding to stand out from the crowd and if your post is good enough, you might get lucky.

Spoiler Source

There are rules on most movie and TV series related subreddits about what kind of content is allowed to be posted. In order to comply with these rules, before you post a spoiler in your comment, you'll need to source it. Spoilers cannot be directly added to the submission title. If you're linking external images or articles, your post should have a [Spoiler] flair along with the name of the show. If you fail to use the proper tags more than once, you might be banned from the page.

Filter by flair

I love the filter by flair option on this page. It helps to perfectly segregate the content, so that you can browse through posts easily. When you're browsing through posts, you can choose from a wide range of options, such as "Announcement?", "OC Fanart?", "Official Media?", "News?", "Clip?", "Episode?", "Rewatch?", "Misc.?", "Contest?", and "Writing?". This way, you can sort the content based on your preference. For instance, if you want to check out contests, just choose the ?Contest? option and you'll find a tailored feed filled with those posts.
