The entertainment industry has become an enormously important facet of our lives. There is a wide spectrum of media including music, movies, podcasts, videos, and gossip channels that keep us engaged throughout the day. Over the years, the content-delivery along with content-consumption patterns have changed dramatically to fit the needs of the hour. Everyone involved in the entertainment fraternity needs to change with time and that shift doesn't just affect studios, but musicians, movie stars, directors, writers, and marketing personnel as well. With streaming services becoming more popular, major studios are tying up with each other to curtail the rise of new cutting-edge services that are making the case for compelling content. Warner Bros, Paramount Pictures, Disney, and 20th Century Fox are competing fiercely to grab the audience's attention. Not only do they have a massive offline presence, but they are trying to establish themselves online as well. You'll find these major studios, and even actors and directors starting their own YouTube channels. Almost all of them use Twitter and some of them even use Reddit under a pseudonym.

We will be reviewing one of the most popular communities on Reddit, r/Entertainment. You'll find the funniest, weirdest, fascinating, and alarming stories about anyone and everyone from the entertainment industry here.

My recent experience on r/Entertainment

The last time I browsed r/Entertainment, there were two stories that I upvoted. The first story, which was originally published on deadline.com, was about actor Riz Ahmed revealing that he had lost two family members to Covid-19. The second story, which was published on popculture.com, was about Oprah Winfrey facing a wave of backlash online after problematic past actions resurface. The audience interaction on both these posts was notably different. The ?Riz Ahmed? story received 9.5k upvotes with 300 comments, while the ?Oprah? bit received just 28 upvotes. Thus, it can be seen that popularity and interaction may not be completely accurate indicators of a post's success on this platform.

About r/Entertainment - Community & Members

The subreddit, "Entertainment," is described as the ultimate source for news and discussion from the entertainment industry. The community has 1.5 million members, of which 2-5k members are online at any given time. r/Entertainment is one of the oldest subreddits on the platform, having started its journey back on September 17, 2007. Whether you are a news junkie or not, this is the place for you. If you are interested in entertainment, gossip, and news surrounding the media fraternities, you will find quality content on this subreddit on a daily basis. At the time of writing this review, I learned about the news of Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan passing away on this page. Other than hard news and headlines, you will find light humor and engaging content which will keep you hooked to this subreddit. Whether you are a news junkie or not, this is the place for you.

How to access r/Entertainment?

If you are already a Reddit member, you can simply type "r/Entertainment?" in your search bar and follow the subreddit. However, if you are new to the platform, you will need to create an account and confirm your email address. Once you do so, you will be able to follow subreddits, comment on posts, and even post anything on any of the subreddits.

Moderators of r/Entertainment

R/Entertainment is the top source for entertainment journalists and audiences that love scoops, news, columns, and featured stories about films, celebrities, rumor mills, and more. Since the community has over a million members, it is fair that it has more than 1-2 moderators to run the proceedings. These moderators ensure that the content complies with the norms of the group and people are entertained without any hassle. There are various right moderators on r/Entertainment, including ?jedberg?, ?BritishEnglishPolice?, ?greatyellowshark?, ?davidreiss666?, ?GuacamoleFanatic?, ?just-a-traveler?, and ?MuteRenew.?

Why should you follow r/Entertainment?

Redditors on r/Entertainment frequently post about current events and celebrities in the entertainment industry. The most popular post of the day typically receives between 2000-5000 votes within 24 hours. This indicates a healthy community size for a site that doesn't have as many followers as r/videos or r/youtube. Additionally, you'll see the bandwagon effect where if there's hard news to be covered, Redditors from around the world will share stories related to that topic.

Community Engagement

The r/Entertainment subreddit is a very active community, and you will always find people to talk to on this subreddit. People are updating posts, communicating via comments, and even sharing a quality post on their social media profiles. One thing that I noticed about this page is that the post seems to get upvotes and attention 2-3 days after the initial upload. So, if you create a post today, it might only attract 400-800 upvotes but after a couple of days, it starts to gain traction and easily surpasses the 10,000-mark.

Browsing and Navigation

I am not interested in celebrity news and gossip, however, I spend 5-10 minutes on r/Entertainment every day. Browsing across various categories is easy and finding content is not a big hassle. Nonetheless, I still feel that the mods could do a better job by adding filter by flair to facilitate smooth navigation. Right now the only way to find relatable content is by using the basic sorting function. And thus, content segregation isn't the best on this subreddit.

Reddit Gold

This particular page has stories that some people will find interesting and others will not. The popularity of the post on this page in relation to gold distribution can be deceiving though, because for instance, Tom Hanks' blood being used for Coronavirus vaccine research gathered more than 40,000 upvotes and 1 gold while "The Midnight Gospel?" with just 4,200 upvotes managed to win gold.

Filter by flair

Many subreddits have a section called "Filter by flair." However, the most disappointing factor about r/Entertainment is that there is no filter by flair. That means that you cannot sort content based upon your preference. You will need to rely on basic "Top," "Rising" content sorting features as there is no genre-based sorting available.

Important rules you must know before joining r/Entertainment?

Before you go and join r/Entertainment, make sure to follow the guidelines. The failure to follow the guidelines can lead to a ban from the page. So, make sure you follow the guidelines below: from the subreddit. 2. Posts that are not related to the subreddit's theme or content will be removed. 3. Posts that are not directly relevant to discussion will be removed.

Design

Whilst the posts are visually appealing, they lack any personality. It seems that not enough work has been put into making this subreddit stand out. It has a standard icon with a blue cover at the top. Towards the right, you'll find a ?Join? button and under that you have the ?Create Post? section. The hero section features several sorting options along with posts. You can choose content based on options such as "Hot," "New," "Top," and "Rising." However, despite being visually appealing, the posts lack any personality. To the right is a banner ad for the community that we captured at the start. Beneath that information, you will find banner ads in the side-bar and in-feed. These ads will have no visible impact on your browsing experience.
