Many people now consider discussing films at length to be a career. Each film is seen as an art piece, with different perspectives present for everyone. Cinema forces people to think critically and to see art from a variety of angles. When discussing films with friends, it is the goal of each person to provide an honest, fair reflection of the film and to change someone's perspective on it. A good film can be capable of revitalizing an artist's imagination and setting sparks into their dormant piece of art. We are going to review one community where people are constantly changing and challenging the way you think about film. And that community is r/TrueFilm.

My recent experience on r/TrueFilm

One of my recent experiences on r/TrueFilm was an engaging post about a 1998 movie called Happiness. For me, it was a below-average movie and one that wasn't quite memorable. But a post by u/xoxoxoeleanor made me rethink about this film and give it another go. Upon doing so, I realized that I had been finding this movie so fascinating which prior to that viewing it was a forgettable title. All of a sudden, Happiness started to feel like an intelligent work of art where people are responsible for the anguish of others. And it's a perfect chain. And I have nothing but deep admiration for the OP for changing my perception.

Moderators of r/TrueFilm

Community Engagement

The community of r/TrueFilm is not very active. It has over 200,000 members and only 500 of them are actively participating at any given time. However, despite this fact, the discussion in the comment section is interesting and helpful. I am amazed at how different people can perceive the same content through different lenses.

Browsing & Navigation

Since only a few hundred people are active on r/TrueFilm, browsing and navigating the subreddit is seamless. Moreover, there's no video content and thus you can easily browse the subreddit even with a substandard internet connection. No Tumblr or twitch hosted images/videos mean that you no longer need to visit the third-party website to watch the content. The page loads instantly and so far I haven't encountered any problems with this subreddit.

Reddit Gold

It is amusing how memes and other forms of content are able to attract a lot of attention. However, insightful posts with sensible content are not suitable for anyone, especially when it pertains to movie-related content. This page caters to a specific niche where the users do not weigh post or comment appreciation in gold. Throughout the subreddit, I could only find 1-2 gold being awarded every day. Sure, that is not much but I do not feel that r/TrueFilm needs it anyways.

Filter by flair

I find that the Filter by Flair option on this subreddit is disappointing because there are only a few options available - "FFF" - Fun, and Fancy-Free, when there could be many. The content on this subreddit is diverse, so I would like the moderators to try sorting the content to make it easier for people to find content based upon their taste. They can also take a page from r/MovieDetails' notebook and add the following flairs - "Review?", "Personal Preference?", "Trivia?", "Unsung Content?" and "Mass Appeal?"
