Options abound when it comes to streaming services. Some are more expensive than others, but there are also cheaper alternatives that can get the job done. The same rules apply to streaming television services, with some offering on-demand content and others providing a live TV experience.
YouTube TV is a premium streaming service that is trying to hold its own in the cut-throat world of premium streaming. With 70 channels, including news, sports, and entertainment, YouTube TV offers a simplified TV viewing experience.
But is it the most comprehensive option out there? These are the sorts of questions we are up against when deciding whether or not to subscribe to the service. It certainly appears to be cheaper than most live TV or cable options, but is it really the best choice for everyone? We need more time to decide for sure.
This subreddit is dedicated to discussing the merits of YouTube TV, as well as providing tips and advice on how to use YouTube TV. We often end up searching for ?Is YouTube TV worth it? or ?Should I spend my money on YouTube TV? because we are hesitant to spend our money on an untested product or service, and that's when we usually rely on others' opinions. Every time we search for a YouTube TV-related query, we find one particular community popping up in search results every time, and that's r/youtubetv. This subreddit is dedicated to discussing the merits of YouTube TV, as well as providing tips and advice on how to use YouTube TV.
This is a review of r/youtubetv as a community. Can you trust it? Can you count on it? Can it help you make an informed decision?

My recent experience on r/youtubetv

The last time I checked this subreddit was a couple of days ago. There were two posts that I upvoted and both were news. The first was the ?30-Day Trial Extension on YouTube for Showtime, Acorn TV, and related channels? which attracted over 50 upvotes and more than 25 people engaged in the comment section. The second was ?Viacom?s cable networks will be added to YouTube TV this summer? which attracted more than 330 upvotes and rightly so because Viacom is a massive network. It's positive news for users who are shelling out more than $40/month for a comprehensive streaming experience.

About r/youtubetv - Community & Members

The community has an average of 370-600 members online at any given time. This subreddit was created on February 28, 2017, and has grown tremendously in the past couple of years. It is gaining a lot of traction in recent times and has one of the best member to engagement ratios I have seen in a while.

How to access r/youtubetv?

that take your interest. If you are not already a Redditor, you will need to create an account and submit proof of email address. Once you have done this, you will be able to follow subreddits, comment on posts, and even post anything on any of the subreddits that interest you.

Moderators of r/youtubetv

One of the most disappointing aspects of this website is that it has only one moderator - 7thton. And if you read my reviews, you would know that I am not a big fan of a single person managing a group of over 35,000 members. I would be happier if there were at least three or four members to ensure that all the activities on the page are tracked well and improvements are made based upon the feedback. I am not sure if a single person can manage to do all that by themselves.

Why should you follow r/youtubetv?

I would recommend r/youtubetv to anyone looking for a comprehensive review of the YouTube TV platform. This community is intimately familiar with all of the features and nuances of YouTube TV, and their reviews are always accurate and impartial. You'll find a great range of content on this subreddit, including news, technical questions, general questions, as well as information on other streaming platforms like Roku, Nvidia Shield, and Android Box.

Community Engagement

I applaud the members of this community for maintaining an amazing engagement rate. First, for a community of 35,000+ which has 1% of its members active at any given time - that's an amazing feat. Recently, I reviewed half a dozen services that had more than 80,000 members but not even 0.20% of them were active. So, in terms of community engagement, r/youtubetv is a livewire. For instance, a simple query - "Is there a way to make the notifications banner go away faster?" attracted more than 5 comments within a few hours.

Browsing and Navigation

Though a considerable amount of members are active simultaneously, the sub is not that mainstream yet. So, 300-500 or even 1500-2000 members are not going to have any significant effects on your browsing or streaming experience. I was on this sub for over 20 minutes and didn't face any discrepancies at all throughout the testing. Moving across different sections was seamless, sorting the content was easy, and overall this sub offered hassle-free navigation.

Reddit Gold

The engagement rate and gold distribution are both commendable on this platform. I found 3-4 top posts that received gold for the title and 6-7 golds awarded to the contributors in the comments. This allocation ratio is much better as compared to r/badMovies or any of the recently reviewed subreddits. Keep in mind, that this sub has a small following, and even after that, there is still a considerable amount of gold out there.

Related Subreddits

I enjoy it when communities make it easy for users to find quality content without any hassle. In the sidebar of r/youtubetv, you will find a related subreddit section, where you will find subreddits that are similar to YouTube TV. In this section, you will find five subs- r/cordcutters, r/YouTubeMusic, r/bestofhulu, r/Hulu, and r/PhiloTV.

Filter by flair

If related subreddits make me happy, I filter by flair on r/youtubetv to find content that I can criticize. It's a sign that the community is active and the mod(s) is/are doing their best to ensure that people can find what they're looking for within a single click. On r/youtubetv, you'll find six filter by flair options - ?News?, ?Technical Questions?, ?General Question?, ?Nvidia Shield?, ?Android Box?, and ?Roku?.

Design

Beneath these options, you have quick links to ?Settings?, ?Programming?, ?Live Channels?, and ?Videos?. The r/youtubetv sports website has a clean design with a gray cover image followed by the YouTube logo on a TV. There is a creative way to demonstrate the channel visually with the general "Create Post" menu and sorting options such as "Hot", "New", "Top", and "Rising". Towards the right there are quick links to settings, programming, live channels, and videos.

Conclusion

If you want to stay up-to-date with YouTube TV news, features, updates, and more, there is no way you can do that without joining this community. Though I wasn't happy that people don't share critical opinions about the platform, I don't have any other negative aspect to point out about Reddit's r/youtubetv subreddit.
