History and description

Coventry City have played at Ricoh Arena since 2005, after having spent 106 years playing at Highfield Road. The Coventry Building Society Arena, known as Ricoh Arena until 2021, became the home of Coventry City in 2005. Coventry City have played at Ricoh Arena since 2005, after having spent 106 years playing at Highfield Road. Plans for the move were announced as early as 1997, but due to several delays the stadium opened four years later than initially planned. This also led to a proposed capacity of just over 30,000.

On August 20, 2005, Coventry and QPR played their first league match at the Ricoh Arena. The stadium opened six months later in February 2006.

The Ricoh Arena hosted a number of first round group games during the 2012 Olympics.

Over the years, Coventry City has had a rocky relationship with the Coventry Building Society Arena, which is club-owned, revolving around how much rent payments are. The dispute led Coventry to play their home games of the 2013-14 season at Northampton's Sixfields Stadium, which is over 25 miles away from Coventry. However, they returned for the next season.

In 2014, the London Wasps rugby club purchased the ground in Coventry. They relocated to Coventry from their previous home in High Wycombe in 2019 after a rent dispute. In 20221, they moved back to the Coventry Building Society Arena following an agreement with Birmingham City.

Coventry Building Society Arena also regularly hosts large concerts.

How to get to the Coventry Building Society Arena

The Coventry Building Society Arena is located in the northern edge of the city of Coventry, about 3 miles from the city center and one mile more from the main rail station. The stadium is easily accessible by car due to its close proximity to the M6 motorway. Exit the M6 at junction 3 Coventry/Nuneaton, and follow the A444 toward Coventry until the Romley's Green roundabout, where signs will direct you to the car parks. The stadium will be visible right in front of you.

Alternatively, buses serve the station every 10 minutes during the day, and every 15 minutes at night.

Alternatively, catch bus 4 or 5 from Pool Meadow Bus Station near the Coventry Transport Museum. The journey takes about 20 minutes.

Address: Phoenix Way, Coventry, CV6 6GE

Eat, drink, and sleep near the Coventry Building Society Arena

The Coventry Building Society Arena is located on a retail park in the city, which is mainly residential. There are few places to eat or drink in the area on Longford Road, which is the main road through the park. The DoubleTree By Hilton at the Ricoh Arena is located in the stadium and has views of the pitch. The Novotel Coventry is located on the M6 and may be convenient if you arrive by car, but otherwise you will have to find a hotel in Coventry's city center.

The Coventry Building Society Arena is located close to hotels in the city centre, and there are many other options available for visitors.

Useful websites

The official website of Coventry City Football Club, the Coventry Building Society Arena website, tourist information for the Coventry and Warwickshire area, and public transport information for Coventry are all available on cfc.co.uk. Coventry are homeless and are playing their home matches at St. Andrews in Birmingham (the home of Birmingham City Football Club). Just saying.

Highfield Road should not have been left out of your past grounds section. If you want to include it, please say so and I can help with any images and information. Just ask.

The Ricoh, like many new stadiums is just a plastic bowl with no soul.

One good thing is that the pitch is below ground level. This means that supporters enter the stadium one third of the way up the stand.

This is good because fans using wheelchairs have easy access to the pitch and a decent view.

Some people believe that having a good view of the pitch is not an advantage, while others find it easier to evacuate in case of a fire.

because they can no longer afford to play in their hometown. I am writing this in February 2020, Coventry are homeless and playing their home matches at St. Andrews in Birmingham (the home of Birmingham City Football Club) because they can no longer afford to play in their hometown.

Just saying.
