Deportivo Alaves
Club Deportivo Alavés is a Spanish football club from Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Basque Country and Álava. The club have won many league titles and been runners-up several times, but their most prized possession is winning the Copa del Rey, which they achieved in the style of Athletic Bilbao's cup competition when it was still known by its current name, La Liga - Spain's top division in professional club sports! The team plays at the Estadio Mendizorrotza, where 19,000 fans can see Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Roberto Ayala (Sporting CP) and Mikel San Jose aka Iniesta, among others.
The history of Deportivo Alavés is one that has been passed down for generations. For more than 80 years, with limited funds and few fans, the club has clawed its way through the lower echelons of Spanish football without ever making it to the top flight - until now! Recent La Liga promotion is (in part) due to the club's ability to acquire talented players from bigger sides like Athletic Bilbao, who themselves were in search of promotion after decades playing only international football at home watching Spanish football on TV while looking for a job - whatever you want to call what they do best: playing ball outside.
This club is more than just a sports team. He is an institution that has seen it all and is always looking for the next win! The most successful period in the club's history was from 1998 to 2003, when the club played five consecutive seasons in the first division and reached two UEFA Cup finals, including a win against Rosenborg Trondheim (1-1).
In the final in Dortmund's Westfalenstadion, Jordi Cruyff scored an own goal in injury time to equalize the Spanish team 4-4, who lost 5-4 to Liverpool.
