It can be difficult to decide which streaming service is right for you, as there are a number of high-quality options available. Which one will be the best fit for your needs? It is important to remember that not every service has to be expensive, and there are options available that are very affordable. This is why it is important to figure out which premium streaming apps are the best before picking one to use. To do this, it is necessary to understand how to identify which ones are good and which ones are not worth your time and space. How then, can one quickly and easily identify a great premium streaming app from the ever-growing pile of streaming apps available in the app store?

The first thing I look at when weighing a premium streaming app is its content. As is the case in all things, content is key. After all, what good is a streaming app if it doesn't have tons of great shows and movies for you to choose from? Am I right? If all that app offered was subpar shows that nobody has ever heard of before, nobody would care to download it.

It is up to the individual to decide which type of streaming service they would like. Some people prefer award-winning or nominated, critically acclaimed series and films while others may just want a streaming service that offers content that they are interested in. There are many premium streaming apps out there that fall into one of these two categories so it is important for the individual to decide what they want before making a decision.

If you are looking for a streaming service that offers a wide variety of content, Stan TV may be perfect for you. This service is available in Australia and many of the contracts that Stan TV has secured are quite impressive. For example, they have rights to content from some of the most well-known film and television studios.

But anyone who is familiar with streaming apps knows that these apps offer great design, plenty of useful features, and a fair price. So without further ado let's dive in and take a look at Stan TV and see if it is worth your time and money.

History

It may be best to discuss the history of Stan through its content acquisition. In January of 2015, Stan TV released and coincided with the premiere of Better Call Saul. The show also received exclusive rights to Breaking Bad which had only aired on Foxtel in Australia prior to that. Additionally, from the very beginning, Stan offered users Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle. Stan secured partnerships with Sony, ABC, SBS, Viacom, MGM, BBC Worldwide, Showtime, CBS, Village Roadshow, and Warner Bros. from the very beginning. This success was inevitable for Stan.

On December 15th, 2014, Stan TV signed an agreement with ABC Commercial. This agreement included hundreds of hours of archived Australian ABC content, including the popular series Summer Heights High, Janet King, Ja?mie: Private School Girl, Jack Irish, Upper Middle Bogan, Bob the Builder, The Moodys, and Angelina Ballerina.

On December 17th of 2014, Stan signed non-exclusive agreements with Viacom to feature shows from MTV, Comedy Central, and Nickelodeon. This gave Stan the rights to offer shows like SpongeBob SquarePants, iCarly, Teen Mom, South Park, Tosh.0, My Super Sweet Sixteen, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Reno 911.

Stan did not stop growing in 2014, either. In the following years, Stan would acquire content from various sources. In a war for content share with Netflix, something tells me that Stan is only getting started when it comes to acquiring the best content available.

Design

I really enjoy the way that Stan looks. It has a sleek and professional look to it. With a refreshing theme that is largely blue and black, it's nice to see a splash of color on a premium streaming app, as the majority of them tend to use dark themes, heavy on black and gray. I am a huge fan of the layout of the app. Instead of dividing it into a bunch of sections at the top or the bottom of the app, Stan has opted for a sleeker and less distracting way to separate its content. With a simple hamburger dropdown menu at the top, simply click on the menu to toggle to a new category (shows, movies, etc.). When you aren't using the menu, it goes away, allowing for a fuller experience of the app as you browse and explore content.

That being said, the app is not quite as reliable as it seems. It crashes often and you cannot minimise videos so that you can continue watching content while doing other things on your phone (answering texts, messages, etc.). Also, the swiping between shows function is not nearly as smooth or natural as it could be. It's easy to forget sometimes that app design is about more than just looks. The functionality is even more important and, sadly, Stan is not the best-functioning streaming app there is.

Content

As I have already outlined, Stan is one of the best premium streaming apps for the quantity and quality of its content. You can't argue with the shows and movies that Stan has to offer. It has plenty of fan favorites, cult classics, and hit shows and movies to watch. Plus, Stan, like Netflix and Hulu, offers some of its own original programming. Original shows such as No Activity, Plonk, Wolf Creek, Romper Stomper, Bloom, The Other Guy, The Gloaming, and The Commons help to set Stan apart from the competition. If quality content is yourmain concern, you will not be able to go wrong with Stan.

Pricing and Plans

What you pay for Stan depends on the streaming quality, number of simultaneous streams, and number of offline download devices you want. Here is a quick breakdown of the different plans that Stan TV offers: Stan offers three subscription plans for its streaming devices: Standard, Premium, and Ultra. The Standard plan offers HD streaming and one simultaneous stream, while the Premium plan offers 4K streaming and four simultaneous streams. The Ultra plan offers the best possible streaming experience with five simultaneous streams and no ads.

So, in conclusion, if you want to make the most of Stan TV app, you will have to pay a pretty penny.

Suggestions that I have for Stan TV App

If Stan really wants to become a major competitor for Netflix, they will need to offer more for their basic $10/month subscription tier. The standard resolution is fine, but I think at least two would give Stand more of a competitive edge in the space. They will also have to finally fix all of those pesky bugs and crashing issues on the app.
