Subtitles are a life-saver for people who are deaf or hearing impaired. Thanks to subtitles, anyone who is deaf or hearing impaired can enjoy every movie and TV show the same way as someone who can hear. Whether you use closed captions that come with live TV; the prewritten subtitles that are preloaded on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, etc.; or you download subtitles for your favorite movies and shows, there has never been a more accessible time in TV or film history before today.
That is, of course, when the subtitles are accurate. I do not know about you, but I have personally seen many a subtitle script that is way off from what is being said. Sure, there are plenty of minor errors to worry about, such as the wrong spelling of words, the incorrect use of homonyms, or pesky grammatical errors (maybe these do not bother you as much as they get under my skin). But sometimes the subtitles just get things flat out incorrect.
Time after time, I have watched a movie with subtitles on and heard the actor say something only to read the subtitle text below offer up a different sentiment entirely. Poorly executed subtitles are one thing if you can hear them, but they are completely unacceptable for someone who is hearing impaired. It is not fair at all for Hearing and non-hearing people to have to watch what are essentially 2 different movies!
That is why, for the hearing impaired, a solid subtitle site can be everything. Maybe you did not know before today that subtitle sites even existed? well, prepare to have your movie and TV viewing experience enhanced exponentially. There are plenty of sites out there that are dedicated to providing the best subtitles possible.
Subtitles can be helpful for hearing impaired or non-hearing viewers, as they can provide clarification for difficult to understand dialogue or unfamiliar accents.
As an avid reader, I like to leave the subtitles on 99% of the time when I am watching a movie or TV show. Not only can they help to clarify what actors are saying, but it can also be fun to read along sometimes. You'd be surprised, too, some of the descriptions (especially of the music and other non-dialogue noises) can be especially humorous.
Some streaming services do not provide automatic subtitles loading, so a site like Subtitles.org may be helpful in providing them.
There are several situations in which you might need a subtitle file. For instance, if you downloaded a movie or TV show episode and the subtitle file for it is in the wrong language, apply a new one in your preferred language to solve the problem.
If you downloaded a movie and it does not come with a subtitle file, you can use a media player to add a subtitle. VLC is free and can be used to add subtitles for most files.
So, we now know why and how to create a subtitle website; it's time to explore one of the many sites that provides subtitle files in various languages for many different movies and TV series. The site we will be looking at today is known as Sub Scene, an international-friendly subtitle hub that covers a breadth of movie genres.
Design
When you land on Sub Scene, you might find that the layout is relatively simple and user-friendly. It is what it is, and you can immediately start browsing featured subtitles on the home page or use the search bar if you have a specific movie or TV show in mind.
There is a site menu bar, but it is not well-defined or expansive. It does not have the lofty presence that site menu bars often take on. In small print, diagonal from the search bar, you can choose from the following: Login or Register, Forums, or Dark Theme. Immediately to the right of the search bar, too, you will find a ?browse? button and an ?upload? button, encouraging you to become a part of Sub Scene?s active community.
I enjoy the choice between light and dark themes on websites. I find that dark themes tend to be easier on my eyes (especially when I am in night owl mode), so, I always appreciate the choice. Turning the site into a black background and blue text transforms it to a darker look. Returning to Normal mode and seeing a gradient sky backdrop with clouds, blue, white, and beige fading in gradually is also nice. Either way, the website looks good.
Content and Features
Subscene has an impressive selection of movie and TV show subtitles. Just about anything you could imagine, type it in, and there?s a good chance that you will be able to find a subtitle file for it. From there, it couldn?t be easier. Simply locate your language, click download, and in a matter of seconds, the subtitle is right there, ready to be extracted.
It might be advantageous for you to download a folder unzipper such as Win Rar, 7 Zip, or Rarzilla.
In addition to thousands of subtitle files, Sub Scene is also an online community with forums. Members here chat about their favorite movies, subtitle qualities, and whatever comes to mind. It's always a nice touch when a site can offer an active and engaged online community in addition to its main services.
Despite some minor shortcomings, Sub Scene is a basic, straightforward website that succeeds in its main goal: providing subtitles in many different languages. This site would be the first I recommended to someone looking for a good subtitle download site.
Mobile and Desktop Experience
Subscene is a mobile-friendly website. However, it does not have the most mobile-friendly layout in the world. That is, the text is small and the site looks as if no effort was put into making it look good on mobile devices. But, at least it works well enough to download subtitles from.
I have a major issue with the ads on the site. They're not nearly as obnoxious or invasive as ads on other websites (especially some of the free streaming websites out there), but any ads at all tend to be a major turn off for me. Besides, I'm sure that if Sub Scene took donations, their devoted members would be able to sustain them without any ads.
Suggestions that I have for Sub Scene
Looking for a way to get rid of ads, I would love to see Sub Scene overhaul their mobile site to make it more intuitive for phones and tablets. Other than that, I am fond of this site as a whole, and I highly recommend it to anyone who needs subtitles ASAP.
