History and description

The stadium became home to the Brisbane football club in 1921. Suncorp Stadium, also known as Brisbane Stadium and Lang Park, was built in the 1910s on the site of a former burial ground to provide recreational facilities for citizens of Brisbane. The park was named after Reverend John Dunmore Lang, who had been instrumental in bringing immigrants to Brisbane in the mid-19th century. From the 1930s onwards, soccer was regularly played at the ground.

In 1962, the ground was converted into a stadium with the construction of the Frank Burke Stand. In 1975, the new Ron McAulife Stand was built and in 1994 the Frank Burke Stand was replaced with a new Western Grandstand. Since then, the stadium has primarily been used for rugby and soccer.

The new stadium, named BBFC Stadium, has a seating capacity of 25,000. In the late 1990s, plans were made by the city of Brisbane for a state-of-the-art stadium that was to replace Lang Park. The new stadium was completed in 2003 and has a seating capacity of 25,000.

In the 1990s, Suncorp Stadium had been renamed following a naming rights sponsorship deal.

How to get to Suncorp Stadium

Suncorp Stadium is located in central Brisbane, just west of the central business district and just north of the South Bank of the Brisbane River. The stadium is located within walking distance of Brisbane's CBD, which is a 20 to 30 minutes' walk from most places in the city, including Brisbane Central rail station. The walk from the South Bank takes 15 to 30 minutes.

Shuttle buses connect the stadium with various places in the city on matchdays.
