I think watching video content online is a great activity. It is easy for me to fall down the rabbit hole of online videos and spend hours watching them. All it takes is clicking on one video and, poof, the next thing I know, five hours have gone by. It is quite incredible how easy it is for me to get sucked in to videos online.
I enjoy nights where I go down YouTube rabbit hole. One video quickly leads to the next, which leads to the next, which leads to the next. It's always interesting and entertaining. Even when it's late at night or early in the morning.
In these cases, you need to have a copy of the video on your hard drive.
Sometimes, simply watching a video once or twice is not going to cut it. For the occasional video, you just need to have it on your hard drive-- do you know what I mean?
First of all, it can be annoying to have to find the link and revisit it every single time you want to watch the video. Plus, being able to watch the video in question depends entirely on you being around a reliable internet signal. We cannot predict the future. Sometimes our internet goes out. Sometimes you want to watch a particular video during a time when you cannot access wifi-- say, for instance, on a flight. In these cases, you need to have a copy of the video on your hard drive.
The Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox extension, Video DownloadHelper, helps you to download videos even when you are not near an internet connection.
Video Download Helper offers a helpful way to download videos that do not come with download links. It works with HTTPS links, which means it can easily download any YouTube video. This addon is a game changer, and it's time you took a closer look at what it has to offer. Let's dive in!
History
Video DownloadHelper is the third most popular extension available on Mozilla Firefox. It comes in third after Adblock Plus and UBlock Origin. Furthermore, Video DownloadHelper is the second most popular Mozilla recommended addon with a grand total of 2,848,968 users as of December 2019. I would presume that this number has only gotten larger since then.
Video DownloadHelper is 100% free to use. It operates almost entirely on donations by users - many of whom are grateful enough for the software that they are willing to pay for it even though it is free. Video DownloadHelper is also very philanthropic, turning out to be particularly generous with its donations towards causes via Kiva - a site that allows users to donate money to charitable causes, individuals in need, and communities of their choice. As of March 3rd, 2020, Video DownloadHelper has donated $154,825 to 4,413 individual projects on Kiva.
This is something I believe more tech companies and organizations should do. Therefore, I am happy to either donate to Video Download Helper, and I encourage you, if you use Firefox, to purchase the premium version of the extension if it might be useful for you. It is rare for a software company to go out of their way to make a difference, and I believe that should be rewarded.
Design
Video Download Helper is an extension. It is easy to install and use, as seen in the dropdown menu that appears when you click on the extension's icon in your browser of choice. There are several options, including Quick Download, Download and Convert, Add to Blacklist, Details, Delete, or Pin. So very easy to use with an excellent user interface.
Video Download Helper comes with a download manager to keep track of all of your downloads, their statuses, and quick access to the videos once they finish downloading. It is very easy to use.
Content
Video DownloadHelper helps you to download videos from websites like YouTube, DailyMotion, and Vidio. It also converts videos to other formats so you can MP3 them easily.
Video DownloadHelper can download and convert videos as well as aggregate them into one file. You can also create your own playlists and compilations with a few clicks.
With Video Download Helper, you can also download photos and albums containing photos. This extension will help keep all of your important photos safe and secure.
Unfortunately, though, what you can do with Video Download Helper is slightly limited. More so if you are using Chrome over Firefox. You cannot, for example, download YouTube videos with Video Download Helper if you are using Google Chrome. Firefox users, on the other hand, can truly make the most of Video Download Helper. If Chrome were not so convenient, I would say it might be time to consider a switch.
Pricing and Plans
The basic version of the Video DownloadHelper extension is 100% free to use, but if you want access to the extension's premium features - such as no download restrictions, no watermark on converted videos, and the ability to convert to audio-only formats - it will cost you? but not much.
For a lifetime subscription to Video Download Helper, you can either pay a one time fee of $14.99 or choose to pay monthly for $0.99 per month with Premium, or yearly for $8.99 per year. I believe the lifetime membership is the better option because it is cheaper and still provides many benefits such as access to premium content and faster downloads.
Otherwise, you'll already be paying twice the price for just two years! But you can always try it for a month for just a dollar and see if you like it first. The prices, I think, for the premium subscription to Video Download Helper are more than fair.
Suggestions that I have for Video Download Helper
I would like to see the addon's capabilities expanded a little bit more when it comes to Google Chrome. I hate the fact, for example, that I cannot download YouTube videos with Video Download Helper on Chrome. However, this is most likely more of an issue with Google than it is with Video Download Helper, seeing as you are able to do this on the Firefox version.
Video Download Helper is excellent as a desktop extension.
